Your impact is growing in Sorsogon

Dear Champions,

I am Yang, the Expansion and Engagement Manager at ARK. This week, I would love to share a story that is inspiring and nakakataba ng puso. In Filipino, this literally means “fattens the heart” and it describes something deeply heartwarming.

Because of your support, families across the Philippines continue to grow food for life, even in the middle of an unforgiving typhoon season. What we are seeing on the ground is proof that Feed Back has planted determination and deeper connections that carry families through both calm and storm.

This week, we want to share a story from Bulawan, Sorsogon, where Alfredo and his family are proving just how powerful that change can be.

Alfredo is a father of six children and has been a fisherman for 25 years. Before ARK Feed Back, his family did not have a vegetable garden. Most days, their meals depended on whatever was caught out at sea. Vegetables were a rarity, and feeding a big family on an unpredictable income meant stretching a very limited budget.

But everything changed when they joined Feed Back.

Heavy rains recently damaged much of their garden, including eggplants that were just beginning to fruit. Instead of giving up, the entire family replanted and repaired their plots, determined to keep going. Their persistence paid off. Today, they harvest and sell about 5 kilograms of vegetables every week or two, giving them a small but steady income to support household needs.

Alfredo’s children now eat vegetables from their own backyard. They help tend the garden. They see food not just as something to buy, but something they can grow together. For Alfredo, Feed Back is not just a livelihood. It is a way to rebuild resilience, strengthen family habits, and restore dignity and hope.

Thank you, Champions, for making stories like Alfredo’s possible. Your belief fuels real change, even in the hardest seasons.

Let us continue growing abundance together,

Yang Obrero

Expansion and Engagement Manager
